Your data stays under your control.

Information Cairn uses on your device

To provide its features, Cairn may access and store the following information locally on your device:

• Markdown files in the folder you select, together with a secure system bookmark that lets Cairn reopen that folder.
• App preferences, recent tags, scan caches, task links, and other small pieces of state needed to remember your choices.
• Calendar events, calendar identifiers, and links between tasks and events when you enable calendar features.
• A coarse latitude and longitude when you choose sunrise-relative reminders. The coordinate is stored locally so sunrise can be calculated on the device.
• Notification and Live Activity state used to show the reminders and progress indicators you enable.

No developer collection or tracking

Cairn contains no advertising, analytics, tracking SDK, or developer-operated network service. The developer does not receive your notes, tasks, location, calendar data, device identifiers, or usage information.

Your chosen storage and services

Cairn itself does not upload your data. If the folder you select is stored in iCloud Drive or another Files provider, that provider may sync the files under its own terms and privacy policy. Calendar accounts may similarly sync events through Apple or the calendar provider you selected. Opening a note in another app or sharing it through the system share interface is an action you initiate, and the destination app or service controls what happens next.

Files and folders

Cairn reads and updates only the folder you choose through the system document picker.

Calendar

Used only when you open calendar features or enable task synchronization. Cairn edits only events it created.

Location

Requested only when you choose sunrise-relative reminders and used on device to calculate the local sunrise time.

Notifications

Used only to deliver local reminders you enable.

You can change Calendar, Location, and Notification access at any time in the iOS or iPadOS Settings app.

Retention and deletion

Your Markdown files remain in the folder you control until you edit or delete them. You can remove calendar events in Calendar and manage synced copies through the storage or calendar provider you chose. Deleting Cairn removes its app-local preferences, caches, folder bookmark, and stored sunrise coordinate from the device. Data held by a Files or calendar provider must be managed with that provider.

Changes to this policy

If Cairn’s data practices change, this policy and the App Store privacy information will be updated before the affected version is released.
