Cairn support

A clear path back to your tasks.

Cairn works with a folder of ordinary Markdown files. You can begin with a new folder in Files or select an existing vault. No account or separate desktop app is required.

Quick start

  1. On first launch, take the optional Welcome Tour or tap Skip the tour.
  2. Choose Start fresh, then create and select a folder in Files. “On My iPhone” is fine.
  3. Tap Start using Cairn, then use the plus button to enter a task and optionally choose a due date.
  4. Find the task in Today, Upcoming, Inbox, or Pool. Completing it updates the Markdown file directly.

Common questions

Do I need Obsidian?

No. Cairn can use any folder of Markdown notes. It also supports the task metadata commonly used by the Obsidian Tasks plugin.

Why is a cloud file missing?

Cairn scans files that are available locally. Open the folder in Files and download any cloud-only notes, then refresh the scan in Cairn.

Can I change the selected folder?

Yes. Open Settings, go to Vault & About, and choose Re-select vault folder.

Are Calendar and Location required?

No. Calendar is requested only for calendar features. Location is requested only for sunrise-relative reminders. Core task management works without either permission.

How should I protect an important vault?

Keep a backup or version history through the storage system you already use. Before large changes, verify that your latest backup can be restored.
